Man jailed for robbery

A 35-year-old man convicted of robbing three banks in Kowloon was sentenced to six years and six months' imprisonment at the High Court today (November 9).

The court heard that the defendant robbed three banks in three locations in Kowloon area between February 18 and April 11 this year by approaching the respective bank staff in the counter and producing one bottle of corrosive acide together with a demand note asking for money.

He successfully took away $36,000 and $43,100 in two bank robbery cases occurred on February 18 and March 4 respectively while he fled empty handed on another robbery case on April 11.

Officers from Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon West took over the case and the defendant was identified after extensive investigation. He was finally arrested on April 21 during an ambush at the junction of Nathan Road and Austin Road.

The defendant was charged with two counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery. He pleaded guilty to all the charges and was sentenced to a total of six years and six months' imprisonment today.
