Marine Police seize over $19 million worth of suspected smuggled goods

Marine Police seized over $19 million worth of suspected smuggled goods off Sha Tau Kok Hoi last night (November 10) during an anti-smuggling operation.

At about 6.30 pm, officers of the Special Tasking Team of Sha Tau Kok Division together with officers of the Marine Regional Task Force spotted two speedboats at Sha Tau Kok Slipway and a light goods vehicle at shore. About 10 persons were seen loading the goods from the light goods vehicle onto the speedboats.

The ambushing officers immediately revealed their identity. The speedboats managed to escape while all men at shore fled before officers reached the vehicle. Marine Police launches chased the speedboats which eventually disappeared in the Mainland waters.

A total of 23 boxes of fur with an estimated value of over $19 million were found onboard the light goods vehicle.

The case will be taken over by the Customs and Excise Department.
