Special traffic arrangements to facilitate public procession

Police will implement special traffic arrangements to facilitate a public procession to be held from Causeway Bay to Central on May 1.

The procession will be started in the afternoon from Victoria Park in Causeway Bay to the Central Government Offices in Central.

Police will carry out road closures along the route intermittently until the conclusion of the procession and the following special traffic measures will also be implemented:

(A) Road closure

The following roads will be closed to all vehicular traffic from about 2.30 pm:

1. Gloucester Road southbound between Victoria Park flyover and Causeway Road;
2. Gloucester Road northbound south of Sugar Street;
3. Sugar Street;
4. Yee Wo Street westbound between Pennington Street and Hennessy Road;
5. Jardine's Bazaar; and
6. Hennessy Road westbound between Yee Wo Street and Lee Garden Road.

(B) Traffic diversion

The following traffic diversions will be implemented from about 2.30 pm until the road closure is lifted:

1. Traffic along Victoria Park flyover southbound will be diverted to turn right onto Gloucester Road service road;
2. Traffic along Great George Street eastbound will be diverted to turn left onto Gloucester Road northbound;
3. Traffic along Yee Wo Street eastbound will be prohibited to turn left onto Sugar Street;
4. Traffic along Irving Street will be diverted to turn right onto Pennington Street northbound;
5. Traffic along Pennington Street northbound will be prohibited to turn left into Jardine's Bazaar; and
6. Traffic along Pennington Street northbound will be diverted to turn right onto Yee Wo Street eastbound.

(C) Suspension of bus stops

All bus stops along Gloucester Road southbound, Irving Street, Yee Wo Street westbound, Hennessy Road westbound, Queensway westbound and Queen's Road Central will be intermittently suspended by phases from 2.30 pm until the crowd has dispersed and traffic resumes normal.

(D) Suspension of public light bus stand

The public light bus stand at Sugar Street will be temporarily suspended in phases from about 2.30 pm until the crowd has dispersed and traffic resumes normal.

Members of the public are advised to use public transport service and avoid driving to the affected areas.

Motorist should exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion and take heed of instructions of the Police at the scene.
