Boy arrested for claiming to be a Triad member on the Internet

Police today (May 19) arrested a 14-year-old boy for claiming to be a member of a Triad society in his own blog on the Internet.

Police investigation revealed that the boy set up a blog since December 2006 and identified himself as a member of a triad gang active in Shan King Estate, Tuen Mun.

In the blog, he recorded a number of events including his being arrested for an offence of unlawful assembly in early May this year and his involvement in a fighting against another triad rival.

Officers of District Anti-triad Squad, Tuen Mun, with the assistance of the Technology Crime Division, Commercial Crime Bureau, successfully identified the identity of the boy and arrested the boy in Nai Wai, Tuen Mun early this (May 19) morning.

The boy is now on Police bail pending for further investigation.

Police reminded the public that all existing legislation that prohibits criminality in the "physical" world will equally apply to criminal acts committed in the "cyber" environment.
