Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island

Police officers issued a total of 411 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 10 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

The operation concluded at 7pm today (May 22) and a total of 173 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

A total of 337 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 74 for other traffic offences.

Twenty pedestrians and 221 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

Statistics revealed that a total of 1,036 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to April this year.

Of them, 53.3 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
