Over $34 million electronic products seized in joint anti-smuggling operation

Marine Police and the Customs and Excise Department seized a large quantity of electronic products worth over $34 million at Tsam Chuk Wan in Sai Kung yesterday (May 29).

In the evening of May 29, Marine Small Boat Division and Regional Task Force mounted a joint anti-smuggling operation with the Customs and Excise Department at Tsam Chuk Wan. At about 7.40 pm, enforcement officers spotted a number of speedboats in east of Tai Long Wan entering Rocky Harbour. A heavy goods vehicle and a medium goods vehicle were then seen unloading cargoes onto four speedboats at a beach in Tsam Chuk Wan.

When the enforcement officers took action, the people unloading the goods abandoned the cargoes on the vehicles and the beach, jumped onboard the speedboats and made good escape.

A total of 409 boxes of contraband products including computer hard disks, servers, integrated circuits, notebook computers, LCD panels, watch movements and second-hand mobile phones worth over $34 million were seized at scene and on the vehicles.

The Customs and Excise Department has taken over the case for further investigations.
