Appeal for information on fatal traffic accident in Sai Kung

Police are investigating a traffic accident in Sai Kung occurred on July 19 in which a 71-year-old woman was killed.

At about 2.50 pm on July 19, a public bus was travelling along eastbound New Hiram's Highway. While approaching the roundabout near Nam Wai, it reportedly failed to stop in time and rammed into the rear of a public light bus which has stopped due to traffic situation ahead, resulting in a chain collision with other seven vehicles which have also stopped ahead.

After the impact, 16 persons including 10 men and six women aged from 13 to 80 were injured. They were respectively sent to the United Christian Hospital, Tseung Kwan O Hospital and Queen's Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment. A 71-year-old woman, who was a passenger of the public light bus, was later certified dead at 12.09 pm on July 20 at Queen's Elizabeth Hospital.

The case has been taken over by the Special Investigation Team of Kowloon East for investigation.
