Fatal traffic accident in Mong Kok

Police are investigating a traffic accident in which a 71-year-old woman was killed in Mong Kok this evening (July 26).

Shortly before 7 pm, a private car driven by a 36-year-old man was travelling along Shanghai Street towards Tsim Sha Tsui. While approaching the junction with Soy Street, it reportedly knocked down the 71-year-old woman who was crossing the road.

Sustaining serious head injuries, the woman was rushed to Kwong Wah Hospital where she was certified dead at 7.20 pm.

The 36-year-old private car driver was later arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He is still being detained for enquiries.

Investigations by the Special Investigation Team, Traffic, Kowloon West are proceeding.
