Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island

Police officers issued a total of 481 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 33 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

The operation concluded at 7 pm today (August 21) and a total of 240 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

A total of 350 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 131 for other traffic offences.

Forty-two pedestrians and 228 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

Statistics revealed that a total of 1 808 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to July this year.

Of them, 54.4 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
