Three arrested over Internet investment scam

Three men, aged between 18 and 33, were arrested in the Kowloon area today (September 27) for allegedly selling and promoting a fraud collective Internet investment scheme known as "Swisscash".

A report was made to the Hong Kong Police in July that a website promoting a collective Internet investment scheme had been operating since 2005.

The scheme alleged that it could provide participants with 25% return in one month. Subsequent to the initial investment, investors would be asked to introduce other participants to join the scheme so that the investors would be able to gain extra bonus linked to the participants' investment amount. Existing participants were encouraged to solicit potential participants via Internet forums to maximise profits. However, only brief outlines on the investment methods of the pooled money were available on the website.

Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) conducted an investigation and arrests were made today.

Police appealed to anyone who had invested in the scheme or who had any information to offer to contact the CCB on 2860 5012.
