Eighteen killed in Sai Kung fatal traffic accident **************************************** Police are investigating a traffic accident in Sai Kung this morning (May 1) in which 18 women were killed and 44 people injured. A coach driven by a 32-year-old man was travelling on New Hiram's Highway towards Ho Chung at about 9 am. When approaching the roundabout at Ho Chung, the coach lost control and side-turned. After the accident, the coach driver, seven male passengers and 40 female passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to various hospitals for medical treatment. Another fourteen female passengers were certified dead at scene after being rescued by the officers. Among the 48 injured persons, four female passengers were certified dead later in the hospitals. The coach driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and has been detained for further enquiries. Investigations jointly by the Regional Crime Squad, Kowloon East, and Traffic, Kowloon East, are under way.
