Man arrested over online fund-raising deception *********************************************** Police Officers of Commercial Crime Bureau of Technology Crime (CCB) Division (TCD) arrested a 16-year-old boy on May 16 in connection with an online fund-raising deception related to Sichuan earthquake. A report was made to the Police on May 16 that a forum with misleading message suspected to lure people to make donations for the Sichuan earthquake was found on the internet. TCD officers arrested the 16-year-old boy in Kwai Chung on the same day. He was arrested for attempting to obtain property by deception and access to computer with criminal or dishonest intent. He has been released on bail pending further investigation. TCD has been closely monitoring appeals on donation activities on the internet and reminds members of the public that obtaining property by deception is a serious criminal offence in contravention of the Theft Ordinance. They may also commit the offence of access to computer with criminal or dishonest intent at the same time.
