Public are urged to take heed of traffic condition tomorrow ********************************************************* Members of the public are advised to take heed of the traffic condition as traffic on Hong Kong Island, especially in Central, is expected to be very busy and congested due to public activities to be held tomorrow (June 18). "To help ease the traffic, motorists are advised to avoid travelling to the congested areas unless it is absolutely necessary and to make use of non-road based public transport services as far as possible," a police spokesman said today (June 17). Members of the public are advised to plan their routes early, use alternative routes, allow more travelling time to cater for unexpected delay and watch out for the latest traffic news through the media. They are also advised to exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion and to follow instructions of the Police. "Those parties who take part in the public activities are advised to express their views in a calm and rational manner, and refrain from taking drastic actions that will cause inconvenience to the public and affect the traffic condition," the spokesman reminded. The spokesman also reiterated Police's long-standing policy to facilitate all lawful public activities. ¡§We will strive to assist in maintaining the order so as to ensure that the participants of the public activities can exercise their legal rights in holding lawful assembly and freedom of speech," he said. ¡§While exercising their rights, they are also reminded to observe the law and respect the safety and rights of members of the public and other road users." The spokesman stressed that Police would not tolerate any illegal and deliberate actions to block the traffic and would take actions to ensure that the traffic and safety and rights of the public would not be affected.
