Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island

Police officers issued a total of 567 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 25 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

The operation concluded at 7pm today (July 22) and a total of 165 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

A total of 320 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 247 for other traffic offences.

Fifty-eight pedestrians and 212 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

Statistics revealed that a total of 1 597 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to June 2008.

Of them, 55.8 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
