Operation against drink driving

Police Traffic Kowloon East region concluded its four-day operation at 5am today (September 15) against drink driving in the region during the Mid-Autumn Festival period.

A total of 45 enforcement checks have been conducted resulting in the arrest of ten persons for drink driving. In addition, verbal warnings were issued to seven drivers.

During the operation, the Police have conducted 45 visits to bars and restaurants, offered 80 free breath screenings for patrons and handed out more than 3,200 educational leaflets to appeal to them not to drive after drinking.

A Police spokesman stressed that drink driving is a major contributory factor in serious road accidents.

"Motorists are reminded not to drive after consuming alcohol. Offenders will be liable to a maximum fine of $25,000 and three years¡¦ imprisonment and penalized for 10 driving-offence points; or possible disqualification from driving," he added.
