Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island

Police officers issued a total of 500 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 16 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

The operation concluded at 7 pm today (September 23) and a total of 201 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

A total of 324 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 176 for other traffic offences.

Thirty-three pedestrians and 208 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

Statistics revealed that a total of 2112 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to August 2008.

Among these traffic accidents, 57.1 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
