Man arrested over Revenue Tower fire

Police have arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with a fire in Revenue Tower, Wan Chai, this morning.

About 9.40am, Police received a report that someone had set fire at an office in Revenue Tower.

When police officers and firefighters arrived at the scene, the fire had been put out by the automatic sprinkler system. There were no casualties reported and about 600 people were evacuated.

Initial enquiries revealed that a man had allegedly poured some suspected inflammable liquid at two counters inside the office and he escaped after setting fire to the liquid.

Following extensive investigations, Police arrested the 51-year-old man when he sought medical treatment in Tuen Mun Hospital this afternoon. The man, who has been arrested for arson, will be detained overnight for further enquiries.

Investigations by Regional Anti-triad Squad of Hong Kong are under way.
