Man died in traffic accident in Sheung Shui

Police are investigating a traffic accident in Sheung Shui tonight (October 10) in which a 58-year-old man died and a 29-year-old man was injured.

About 7.30pm, a taxi stopped on the slow lane of Fanling Highway Sheung Shui bound near Kau Lung Hang after having broken down. A light goods vehicle (LGV) travelling on the same carriageway hit onto the rear part of the taxi. The two vehicles subsequently moved forward and hit the central divider.

After the impact, the 58-year-old taxi driver was thrown out of the taxi. Sustaining injuries, both drivers were rushed to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital where the taxi driver was later certified dead at 8.06pm.

The LGV driver was later arrested for dangerous driving causing death and pending further enquiries.

Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North, are proceeding.
