Counterfeit credit card syndicate member jailed
**************************************

The District Court today (October 24) sentenced a 39-year-old man to three and a half years' jail for possessing counterfeit credit cards.

The District Court heard that on May 28, Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) officers mounted a covert operation at the Hong Kong International Airport to crack down on a transnational counterfeit credit card syndicate.

CCB officers identified and intercepted the defendant at the Airport Departure Hall when he was about to leave for Milan, Italy.

The officers found 140 semi-finished counterfeit credit cards in a suitcase carried by the defendant Mao Chun-ming.

Investigations showed that Mao had been recruited by a trans-national counterfeit credit card syndicate in Shenzhen to act as a courier for delivery of the counterfeit credit cards to Milan.

Mao pleaded guilty in the District Court yesterday (October 23) to a charge of possessing equipment for making false instruments.
