Territory-wide campaign driving safety promote
**********************************************

Police have concluded a territory-wide campaign to remind drivers of public service vehicles and goods vehicles the importance of safe driving.

The campaign, codenamed "Kickstarter", was launched between November 21 and 30, resulting in the issue of 52 verbal warnings, 248 summonses and 2 208 fixed penalty tickets.

Among the summonses and fixed penalty tickets issued to the drivers, 36.5% were issued for speeding, 12.5% for mobile phone offence, 7% for seat belt offence and 6% for failing to comply with traffic signals.

Officers from Police Regional Road Safety Teams visited 254 locations throughout the territory and distributed about 18 568 leaflets to drivers of public service vehicles and goods vehicles as well as members of the public. They are encouraged to report undesirable driving behaviour to the Police or to the Transport Complaints Unit of the Transport Advisory Committee.

"We hope that the campaign could enhance public awareness of road safety and eventually achieve the road safety vision: 'Zero Accidents on the Road, Hong Kong's Goal'," a Police spokesman said.

The campaign was the latest in an ongoing series of campaigns conducted by the Police this year by adopting a three-prone approach of publicity, education and enforcement to target such driving offences.
