******************************

Two men, aged 53 and 47, were jailed for 48 months and 22 months respectively at the District Court today (December 2) after being convicted of conspiracy to defraud and possessing a false instrument.

The court heard that the 53-year-old man turned up at a local bank in Central on March 3, 2008 and produced a bank draft worth £á 250 Million Euro for remittance to the 47-year-old man's company account. The bank suspected that the bank draft was forged and a report was made to the police immediately.

Officers of Commercial Crime Bureau arrested the 53-year-old man at scene and seized his notebook computer for further investigations. The 47-year-old man was subsequently arrested in Central.

After investigations, several forged documents, including some bank drafts and US bonds, were found in the notebook computer possessed by the 53-year-old man.

The two men were charged with conspiracy to defraud and the 53-year-old man was also charged for possessing a false instrument. They were convicted of the charges and sentences were handed down today.
