Reward for information about acid bottle case in Mong Kok

Police are offering a $100,000 reward for information that helps them solve the case in Mong Kok last Saturday (December 13) when two bottles containing suspected corrosive fluid were thrown from a building into the street below.

About 5.15pm on Saturday, police received a report that two plastic bottles had been thrown from a building at Sai Yeung Choi Street South near Shantung Street.

When police arrived at the scene, they found that 46 passers-by - 20 men and 26 women aged from 14 to 53 - had been burnt by the fluid. They were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kwan Wah Hospital and Caritas Medical Centre and discharged after treatment.

Police have classified the case as throwing corrosive fluid with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Police appeal to anyone who has information on the case to contact any police station or the investigating officers of District Crime Squad of Mong Kok on 2398 6200.

They can also give the information by letter to General Post Office Box No.999, by fax at 2520 2828 or by email to crimeinformation@police.gov.hk.

The reward will be paid either in full or pro-rata to any person or shared among people giving information leading to the arrest and satisfactory prosecution of those responsible for the attack. The reward is valid until June 15, 2009.
