Man sent to detention centre for possession of equipment to produce false instrument

A 20-year-old man was sent to detention centre at the Eastern District Magistrate today (December 23) for possession of equipment to produce false instrument.

The Court heard that the defendant retrieved credit card data of several customers with a card skimmer at a department store in Hong Kong Island in May this year.

Police later received the report and arrested the defendant in the same month after further investigation.

The defendant was charged with possession of equipment for producing false instrument and sentences were handed down today.

Police stated that producing and possession of false credit cards is a serious offence and is liable to a maximum penalty of 14-year imprisonment. .
