Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

Police officers issued a total of 501 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 43 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

The operation concluded at 7pm today (January 20) and a total of 194 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

A total of 253 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 248 for other traffic offences.

Twenty-seven pedestrians and 208 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

Statistics revealed that a total of 3,139 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in 2008.

Of them, 56.5 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
