Police open fire in Hung Hom

Police are investigating a case in which a 30-year-old Police Constable was injured and a middle-aged man was killed in Hung Hom this (March 17) afternoon.

About 12.40pm, Police received a report that a man was causing nuisance at a hillside on Sheung Wo Street near Ma Tau Wai pumping station. Police arrived at the scene and located a Southeast Asian man in his 40s. The officer attempted to intercept the man but he suddenly attacked the officer.

During the struggle, the officer used his baton and OC foam but failed to subdue
the man. The man continued to attack the officer with a wooden chair and eventually the
officer fired two shots, one of which hit the man's head.

The officer also sustained a hand injury and both were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. The suspect was certified dead at 6.34 pm. No identity document was found on the man and his identity has yet to be ascertained.

Investigations by the District Crime Squad of Kowloon City District are proceeding.
