Police to promote harmonious and inclusive society
**************************************************

In response to a public meeting and procession held by an organisation today (April 5) to call for Police to respect non-ethnic Chinese (NEC), the Police spokesman said:

"Police provide officers with various kinds of training, which emphasise that they should serve the public in an impartial manner, regardless of their ethnicities. When executing their duties, police officers are required to respect all members of the public and treat them fairly and objectively.

We attach much importance to developing constructive long-term relationships with NEC. Through organising various activities and promoting the participation by NEC, it has long been our goal that mutual trust can be established, therefore enabling a harmonious and inclusive society.

Officers attached to Police Community Relations Office regularly pay visits to NEC communities including Nepalese, Filipino, Thai, Indonesian, Indian and Pakistani. We organise meetings, seminars and leisure activities to promote their awareness of crime prevention and to ensure their safety."
