Three counterfeit credit card syndicate members jailed
********************************************

The District Court today (April 30) sentenced two men and a woman, aged between 20 and 38, to three years and four months' jail for conspiracy to use false instruments.

The District Court heard that on September 9, 2008, Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) officers mounted an operation at the Hong Kong International Airport to crack down a counterfeit credit card syndicate.

CCB officers intercepted and arrested the defendants at the Airport Departure Hall when the trio were about to depart for Rome, Italy. The officers seized a total of 20 counterfeit credit cards from two of the defendants.

Investigations revealed that the defendants were recruited by a counterfeit credit card syndicate to deliver counterfeit credit cards to Rome for shopping and send the merchandises back to Hong Kong.

They were subsequently charged for conspiracy to use false instruments and convicted and the sentence was handed down on April 9 and today respectively.

Police reminds the public that uttering counterfeit credit cards is a serious offence and offenders will be subject to a maximum penalty of 14 years' imprisonment.
