Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

Police officers issued a total of 355 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 25 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

The operation concluded at 7pm today (April 30) and a total of 175 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

A total of 259 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 96 for other traffic offences.

Thirty-six pedestrians and 149 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

Statistics revealed that a total of 699 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to March this year.

Of them, 50.9 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
