Man sentenced over forgery

A 46-year-old man was sentence at the Eastern Magistrate Court today (May 4) to perform 120 hours of community service after being convicted of forgery.

A report was made by an insurance company on September 24, 2008, alleging the company was going to sell its subsidiary company. Officers of Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB), after extensive investigation, arrested a 46-year-old man in Western District on April 1.

The defendant was subsequently charged with one count of using false instrument and sentence was handed down today.

According to the Summary Offence Ordinance, any person who sends by any such means any message, which he knows to be false, is liable to a maximum penalty of $1,000 and to imprisonment for two months. Under the Crimes Ordinance, any person who makes or uses a false instrument will be liable to maximum penalty of 14 years' jail.
