Increased reward for information about acid bottle
case in Mong Kok

Police have increased the reward to $300,000 for information that helps them solve the case in Mong Kok in December 2008 when two bottles containing suspected corrosive fluid were thrown from a building into the street below.

About 5.15pm on December 13, 2008, police received a report that two plastic bottles had been thrown from a building at Sai Yeung Choi Street South near Shantung Street.

When police arrived at the scene, they found that 46 passers-by - 20 men and 26 women aged from 14 to 53 - had been burnt by the fluid. They were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kwong Wah Hospital and the Caritas Medical Centre for treatment.

Police have classified the case as throwing corrosive fluid with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The case has been consolidated with another similar incident happened on May 16, 2009 at the same street. Active investigations by the Regional Crime Unit, Kowloon West are underway.

Police appeal to anyone who has information on the case to contact any police station or the investigating officers on 2761 2401.

They can also give the information by letter to General Post Office Box No.999, by fax at 2520 2828 or by email to crimeinformation@police.gov.hk.

The reward will be paid either in full or pro-rata to any person or shared among people giving information leading to the arrest and satisfactory prosecution of those responsible for the attack. The reward is valid until November 24, 2009.
