Boy dies and father wounded in Sham Shui Po

Police today (May 29) arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with a murder and wounding case in Sham Shui Po this afternoon. A 3-year-old boy died and his 61-year-old father was injured.

About 12.40 pm, Police received a report that the 39-year-old man had allegedly attacked the boy with a chopper. The boy was playing in an open space outside Tung Chau Street Temporary Market. The boy's father was wounded when he tried to stop the attack.

The suspect was subdued by people at the scene and was subsequently arrested by police.

With chop wounds to his head and face, the boy was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital where he was certified dead at 1.57pm. His father, who sustained cut wounds to his head and left wrist, and the suspect, who suffered abrasions to his left leg, were sent to Princess Margaret Hospital and Caritas Medical Centre for medical treatment respectively.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of the boy's death.

The 39-year-old man has been arrested for murder and wounding and is still being detained for further enquiries.

Active investigations by District Crime Squad, Sham Shui Po are under way.
