Enhanced sentences for men who handled stolen motorcycles

Police have successfully applied for an enhanced sentence under the Organised and Serious Crimes Ordinance (OSCO), resulting in four men who handled stolen motorcycles sentenced to four to six years' imprisonment at the District Court today (June 25).

The court heard that officers of Police's Organized Crime and Triad Bureau acted on intelligence and arrested the four men, aged between 26 and 42, near an abandoned farm at Ha Yau Tin Tsuen in Yuen Long in the morning of November 28, 2008. During the operation, four stolen motorcycles were seized.

The men were subsequently charged with conspiracy to handle stolen goods. Two of them earlier pleaded guilty and the other two were convicted today. Police applied for an enhanced sentence under OSCO and the judge granted the sentence today.

Police would continue the efforts to combat theft of vehicles. To prevent and detect such crimes, Police will maintain close liaison with the insurance industry, as well as the motors, logistics and transport trades in order to collect intelligence and provide with the industries anti-theft advices. Enhanced sentence would also be applied against offenders whenever appropriate.
