Man dies in Central traffic accident

Police are investigating a traffic accident in Central this morning (June 27) in which a 58-year-old taxi-driver was killed.

About 3.30am, a taxi (1st taxi) was travelling along Connaught Road Central East bound. When reaching near Murray Road, it reportedly hit the central railing and collided with three taxis travelling on the opposite carriageway. The 1st taxi was subsequently driven by a male expatriate passenger in the wrong direction and hit another taxi.

Three taxi-drivers and the expatriate, aged between 22 and 58, were sent to Queen Mary Hospital where the 58-year-old driver of the 1st taxi was certified dead at 8.32am.

The 22-year-old male expatriate was arrested for taking conveyance without authority and drink driving.

District Crime Squad of Central District is investigating the accident.
