Fatal traffic accident in Tai Po

Police are investigating a traffic accident in Tai Po this morning (July 12) in which a woman aged around 80 was killed.

At 8.54am, a taxi driven by the 45-year-old man was travelling along On Cheung Road northbound. After passing the On Chee Road junction, it reportedly hit the woman who was crossing the road.

Sustaining serious head injury, the woman was rushed to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital where she was certified dead at 10.09am.
The deceased was aged around 80 and about 1.5 metres tall. No identification document was found on her.

The 45-year-old taxi driver was arrested for careless driving.

Investigations will be taken over by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North.
