Kowloon West Regional Traffic Day

A total of 22 goods vehicles were found to be overloaded during an operation by Traffic Kowloon West yesterday (August 17), in which thirteen of the drivers were issued with Fixed Penalty Ticket whilst the remaining nine were verbally warned.

The Kowloon West Regional Traffic Day was jointly conducted with officers from Transport Department between 5pm yesterday till midnight. The 22 goods vehicles were found to be overloaded by between 2.12% and 22.7% of their permitted gross weight.

Eight goods vehicles were also found to have various mechanical defects and examination orders were issued to the drivers concerned.

In accordance with Section 54(1) of Road Traffic (Traffic Control) Regulations, Cap 374G, no person shall drive or use, or cause or permit to be driven or used, on a road a goods vehicle or special purpose vehicle that is so loaded that its gross vehicle weight exceeds the permitted gross vehicle weight assigned or deemed to have been assigned to the vehicle under the Road Traffic (Registration and Licensing of Vehicles) Regulations (Cap 374 sub. leg. E).

Any person who without reasonable excuse contravenes the above regulation commits an offence and is liable on first conviction to a fine of $5000 and imprisonment for 3 months and on second or subsequent conviction to a fine of $10000 and imprisonment for 6 months.
