Pickpocketing – Tailing After Victims from Banks/Moneychangers

Crime Matters

Crime Prevention Bureau(CPB)

Recently, a number of Pickpocketing cases have been reported across the territory. Victims who had just withdrawn money from banks or moneychangers were targeted by pickpocketing gangs. The criminals commonly loiter near moneychangers, inside banks, or even queue up with ordinary customers, so as to identify unaware victims who have just withdrawn large sums of money from the tellers. The criminals would then follow the victims and wait for opportunities to steal the money.

Police Advice

  • Take care of your valuables such as handbags, wallets and mobile phones at all times on busy streets and inside crowded public transports; and
  • Pay attention to persons loitering suspiciously in the vicinity of or inside banks and moneychangers for long periods without using their services.
