Detective Training Division

The Detective Training Division provides quality in-service detective training for Force members. The training is classified into the following categories:

  • Basic introduction to crime investigation techniques for officers in Uniform Branch that have a need to perform investigative duties;

  • Basic investigation training for officers in Uniform Branch that have a need, or will be posted to Special Duty Squads dealing with vice, drugs and gambling that require specialist investigative techniques;

  • Standard criminal investigation training for officers being suitable for posting to Crime investigation units;

  • Advanced criminal investigation training for detectives being considered for posting to District or Regional level where specialist expertise is required;

  • District Operation Officer (DOO) Workshop for officers who are discharging or will take up DOO/Assistant DOO duties;

  • Ad hoc training programmes when special need arises

The Division also provides training in basic investigative techniques for a host of government departments, government related bodies and, occasionally, non-government organisations.

In addition, the Division is responsible for training officers in disaster victim identification. Trained officers will form the Disaster Victim Identification Unit (DVIU), which comes under the command of the Head of Division. DVIU can be deployed in disasters/major fatality events to perform the duty of victim identification.
