VMPR

Marine Region practices the ‘Versatile Maritime Policing Response’ strategy. This integrates technologically advanced coastal surveillance systems with an enhanced radar system and a new fleet of high performance vessels, the deployment of which are overseen by the ‘Central Command System’.

MARSAS

MARSAS is a high-tech mobile data transmission system which enables the sharing of real-time situational information between police vessels and command centres. It strengthens the Region’s ability to carry out maritime law enforcement and respond to major maritime incidents, disasters and acts of terrorism at sea. MARSAS would be implemented by phases between 2024 and 2026.

Fleet Replacement

The Marine Region is in the process of procuring 65 new launches and 59 small tender craft.  Meanwhile, 21 new craft including ten Deep Bay High Speed Craft, eight Multi-Mission Interceptors, two Deep Bay Hovercraft and one High Speed Interception Training Boat came into service in 2021.  Marine Region is working closely with the Marine Department on this programme. With the new fit-for-purpose craft, Marine Region’s operational capability will be significantly upgraded and able to tackle new and evolving maritime challenges. The fleet replacement programme is expected to conclude in 2027.

Community engagement

Police Community Relations Office of Marine Region regularly conducts joint education and promotional activities with the support and participation of the District Councillors and members of Senior Police Call at public piers and typhoon shelters to raise awareness on topical issues such as deception, pickpocketing and sea safety.
