2004-01-03 15:16 Police urge motorists to exercise patience while travelling to or near the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in Wan Chai between January 5 and 9 during which two exhibition fairs will be held. The traffic in the area is expected to be very heavy as a large number of goods vehicles will enter and leave the HKCEC at different arranged time slots. Police will implement special traffic arrangements to facilitate the exhibitors loading and unloading their goods during the opening and conclusion of the events. On January 5, a temporarily vehicle holding area will be set up at the former North Point Estate site starting from 10 am to accommodate up to 300 goods vehicles when serious traffic congestion arises in Wan Chai North. The goods vehicles waiting at the vehicle holding area will be directed to the cargo marshalling area of the HKCEC when there are vacancies. The move-in process is expected to last for about 10 hours till 8 pm. On January 9, Expo Drive, Expo Drive Central, Expo Drive East will be closed to implement a queuing system and a vehicle holding area will be set up in the former North Point Estate site at 2 pm. The public car park at Expo Drive Central will be reserved for the move-out process at 3 pm. When serious disruption to road users at Wan Chai North is expected, goods vehicles will be led to the former North Point Estate site to wait until there are vacancies at the cargo marshalling area of the HKCEC. The move-out process is expected to last for until midnight. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes and avoid going to the Wan Chai North area if possible during the move-in and move-out process. They should also follow the instructions of Traffic Police at the scene and be courteous to other road users. |
