Fatal traffic accident : Wong Tai Sin

Police are investigating a traffic accident in Wong Tai Sin in which a 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were killed on December 17, 2003 and appeal for information.

Enquiries revealed that at about 2.15 am, a taxi driven by a 43-year-old man was travelling along the second lane of Prince Edward Road East, Wong Tai Sin, heading Kwun Tong.

While nearing Rhythm Garden, the taxi was crashed on its right side by a following private car driven by the 22-year-old man on the third lane.

In the wake of the impact, the private car rammed the kerbside barrier on the left side.

It then went airborne, hitting a lamppost. After landing overturned on the pavement, it caught fire.

The private car driver and the 19-year-old female passenger in the rear seat were trapped inside the compartment. They were rescued by firemen but were certified dead before arrival at United Christian Hospital.

Two other private car passengers, a 35-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, were rescued by a passing-by driver.

Together with the taxi driver, who felt unwell after the impact, they were sent to United Christian Hospital for medical treatment.

Investigations by Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon East are underway.
