2003-01-14 23:33 Police today (January 14) appealed to shop owners in the Tai Po district who have been extorted but have not reported their cases to Police to come forward. The appeal was made following the arrest of six men, aged between 20 and 37, who were suspected to have extorted a house ware shop located in Sheung Shui last December. Enquiries revealed that a 48-year-old man who is the shop owner was approached by the six men who threatened him to buy two pots of tangerines at $380 each on December 16 last year. The six men left the shop after they were told that the shop owner was not there and a report was then made to Police by the shop owner. The District Anti-triad Squad of Tai Po (DATS/TP) which took up the investigations arrested the six men on San Fat Street, Sheung Shui, on January 10 and today. Among the arrested persons, the 22-year-old man and 37-year-old man who were arrested on January 10 were released on Police bail while the remaining four men arrested today are still being detained by the DATS/TP for further enquiries. Police appealed to shop owners in the Tai Po district who have been victimised but have not reported their cases to Police to contact the investigating officers at 6148 2140, 6148 2144 or 6148 2145. |
