Fatal traffic accident : Central

Police are investigating a traffic accident in Central this afternoon (January 16) in which a 72-year-old man was injured and later died in hospital.

A tram driven by a 41-year-old man was travelling west bound along Queensway in Central about 4.50pm. Approaching outside the Bank of China Tower, the tram hit the man who was crossing the road. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Queen Mary Hospital where he was certified dead at 8.45pm.

Investigations will be taken over by Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island. Anyone who may have seen the accident or who has any information is urged to contact the investigating officers on 3106 8849.
