2005-01-19 00:36 Police yesterday (January 18) conducted an anti illegal worker operation codenamed "Champion" in Sham Shui Po District, resulting in the arrested of 39 women and 38 men. The operation began at 5 am yesterday morning and ended at 11 pm. Officers from the Uniform Branch and Special Duties Squad of Sham Po District and Police Tactical Unit, Kowloon West raided a number of locations including Cheung Sha Wan Wholesale fish and food Market, restaurants, hair salons, and parks in Cheung Sha Wan and Sham Shui Po areas. As a result, 16 women and 29 men, aged between 17 and 60 were arrested for breach of conditions of stay (BOC). Another 17 women, aged between 26 and 55, were arrested for soliciting for an immoral purpose and BOC. Three men and seven women, aged between 40 and 57, suspected to be involved in employing illegal workers were also arrested. During the operation, Police had seized a small quantity of dangerous drugs (DD) and dutiable cigarettes. A 47-year-old woman was arrested for trafficking in DD and another 33 year-old woman and a 47-year-old man were arrested for selling dutiable goods. Police also arrested a 20-year-old male illegal immigrant and a 24-year-old female overstayer in the operation. Police will continue to take stringent enforcement action against any illicit activities and visitors breaching conditions of stay during their stay in the territory. |
