Victims of computer virus urged to contact Police : all

Police today (January 27) appealed to members of the public whose computers might have been infected by a new computer virus to contact Police.

The Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre received five local reports yesterday, comprising three from home users and two from corporate users, on the infection of a new virus called "SQL Slammer Worm".

The virus which was detected on the Internet in various countries on January 25 generated massive amounts of network packets, overload servers and routers, and slow down network traffic.

The origin of the worm has yet to be confirmed.

Anyone who has come across the virus is urged to call Police hotline on 2860 5012.
