Drug trafficker sentenced to jail : Tai Kok Tsui

A 23-year-old man was sentenced to jail for 40 months at the District Court
today (February 17) for trafficking in dangerous drugs and possession of Part I
Poison.

The court heard that acting on intelligence received, officers of Police
Narcotics Bureau intercepted the 23-year-old man after he left a unit on Larch
Street in Tai Kok Tsui shortly after 2.15 am on October 23, last year.

Upon searching, officers found in his possession a plastic bag containing
11.15 grams of ketamine. A subsequent search in the unit led to a further
recovery of 406.53 grams of ketamine contained in 20 plastic bags, 50 grams of
ephedrine, an electronic scale and a large quantity of plastic bags. The
market price of the drugs seized could reach more than $122,000.

Police investigations revealed that the man was a drugs courier for a reward
of $2,000 to $3,000.

He was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of trafficking in
dangerous drugs and one count of possession of Part I Poison.

He pleaded guilty to the charges on January 24 at the District Court. He was
sentenced to 34 months' imprisonment for the trafficking in dangerous drugs
charges and six months' imprisonment for the charge of possession of Part I
Poison, making a total period of imprisonment for 40 months at the District
Court today.
