Police today (October 21) arrested a 35-year-old man and a 30 year-old-woman in connection with a blackmail case in which a 30-year-old man was being unlawful detained in Shenzhen.

The case came to light on last Thursday (October 17) when a 31-year-old woman reported to Police that her 30-year-old brother was being detained in Shenzhen.

Initial enquiries revealed that the victim had been detained in a hotel in Shenzhen on last Wednesday (October 16) after a business dispute arose between him and his business counterpart.

The victim's sister was demanded to pay a sum of $400,000 for the release of her brother.

The Regional Crime Unit New Territories North (RCU/NTN), subsequently took over the case.

After intensive investigation and with the assistance provided by the Public Security Bureau of Shenzhen, officers of the RCU/NTN successfully identified two suspects in Hong Kong and put them under close surveillance.

The operation turned overt today (October 21) in which the 35-year-old man and the 30-year-old woman were arrested in Mong Kok in the afternoon. The victim was also released in Shenzhen.

The duo is still being detained for investigation.
