2005-11-07 20:05 Police are making an all-out effort to crack down on the culprit who is responsible for the explosion occurred inside the office of a local Chinese newspaper in Chai Wan today (November 7). Shortly after 3 pm, Police received a report from the staff of the paper saying that a minor explosion occurred after a female staff member opened a small box dispatched to their office at Ka Yip Street. Investigating officers, including those from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau, were dispatched to the scene for investigations and located the box and a letter with threatening message. The female staff member, suffering slight burnt injuries to her lower lip and chin, together with another female staff member who felt uneasy after the incident were sent to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for treatment. The case is now being investigated by the Regional Crime Unit of Hong Kong Island. "Hong Kong is a place with rule of law and will not tolerate anyone to achieve one's end through violent or threatening acts," a Police spokesman said. "We attach great importance to the case and are mounting comprehensive investigations with full co-operation from the newspaper. We will continue our close liaison and follow every trace with a view to bringing the offender to justice," he added.
