Arson : Cheung Sha Wan

Nine persons were seriously injured and two others were slightly injured in an arson, which occurred in Lai Chi Kok Road this (December 27) evening.

The arson took place shortly before 8 pm in a leather factory on the seventh floor of an industrial building at 781 Lai Chi Kok Road.

Initial investigation revealed that the victims were having dinner and playing Mah-jong inside the unit when the incident occurred.

It was reported that a man suddenly entered the unit and poured some inflammable liquid on the ground of the unit and ignited the liquid before fleeing.

Eleven men, aged 46 to 71, inside the unit sustained burnt injuries and were rushed to the Princess Margaret Hospital and Caritas Medical centre for treatment.

The motive of the attack is still under investigation by Regional Crime Unit, Kowloon west.
