Gambling establishment smashed : Yaumatei district

Police arrested 21 men and three women, aged between 21 and 81, during an operation against illegal gambling in the Yaumatei Wholesale Fruit Market this (September 25) afternoon.

Following extensive investigations into illegal gambling activities run by triads in the Yaumatei Wholesale Fruit Market, officers from the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau, Regional Crime Unit, Kowloon West, and Yau Tsim District ambushed outside the market on Shek Lung Street, Yaumatei.

Thirteen people playing "dai sai" and "fan tan" inside the market were arrested at about 3 pm. About $45,000 in cash were also seized.

Among those apprehended, four men were arrested for operating a gambling establishment while the other six men and one woman were arrested for assisting in operating a gambling establishment.

The remaining 11 men and two women were arrested for illegal gambling.

All the arrested persons are being detained for questioning and investigations by Special Duties Squad of Yau Tsim District are proceeding.
