2004-01-30 01:08 Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in North Point this (January 29) morning in which a 78-year-old woman died. Initial enquiries revealed that at about 8.05 am, a coach which was followed by a taxi stopped on the first lane of Java Road , North Point, outside Java Road Market and let a 78-year-old woman alight. Intending to board another taxi which stopped on the second lane, the woman crossed the road from the rear part of the coach. After having picked up passengers, the first taxi on the first lane, driven by a 31-year-old man, reportedly moved forward and trapped the woman between the coach and the taxi. Sustaining serious injuries, the woman was immediately rushed to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital where she was certified dead at 2.34 pm. Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island are proceeding.
